Bernard (Ben) Fenske, SGM (Ret) 78, went to his eternal home June 20, 2009 at VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. He was born July 21, 1930. He married Sarah E. Cook on September 2, 1949 in Franklin, KY. SGM Fenske served 22 years in Special Forces and other airborne units, serving 11 years overseas in Korea, Japan, Germany, and Laos. SGM Fenske served with the 187th Regimental Combat Team (Abn) during the Korean Conflict, the 11th Airborne in Munich, the 10th Group in Bad Tolz, and in Laos, Operation White Star, with the Special Forces. He was an artilleryman prior to joining SF. During his military career he was an avid sport parachutist, as well as a military parachutist accumulating a total of 350 jumps. His military awards and decorations include the Master Parachutist Badge, Halo Jump Master Badge, Army Commendation Ribbon, 7 awards of the Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation (Japan), National Defense Service Medal, with Oak Leaf Cluster, Korean Service Medal with 2 Campaign Stars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, The Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and the United Nations Medal. Jon Michael Krancich, age 49, died December 6, 2006 in Kandahar, Afghanistan while employed as a private security contractor for the U.S. Protection and Investigations security co. A highly decorated veteran, Jon dedicated his life by proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army Rangers and Special Forces. His expertise, experience, and high level military training took him to the world most dangerous places protecting lives, including those of world leaders and royalty. He loved animals, and also enjoyed and appreciated the quiet beauty that life offered. He was a dependable friend in both military and private life, and will be greatly missed by his loving family. May the blessings of Heaven be bestowed upon you. May our brothers death awake the hearts and minds that take life for granted. Richard F. "Dick" Henrickson, retired Army Special Forces Command Sgt. Maj., 74, of Isle MN, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, in the St. Cloud (Minn.) Hospital. He was born July 21, 1934, in Crosby, Minn., to Eiler C. and Mabel (Baker) Henrickson. He served 33 years with the Army, spanning the Korean War to the Vietnam War. He was a member of Gideon International; a board member of Wealthwood Rod and Gun Club, Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post No. 557, in Deerwood; Isle VFW Post No. 2816, Special Forces Decade Association; Air Borne Regimental Combat Teams Association, Rakkasans 187th RCT; Sergeant Major Association; and Bethesda Lutheran Church, Malmo. He was a former member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, N.C., and Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood.
